We peaked at 600 simultaneous players (5k daily total), and have stabilised at around 200 simultaneous (2.5k daily total). So that means between a third to a half of the people who tried the game stayed. For comparison, this new level is about 15 times more players than we had in the week leading up to F2P. A lot of our time in the past weeks has been fixing master server problems that only emerge when 600 people try to play at the same time.There's a lot of topics to talk about, but right now I'm going to focus on current/future development, otherwise this will be way too long.We've got a hitlist of development requirements that have been made apparent by the recent influx of new players. The big items are related to player retention. We mean that in a few different ways.Make it easier to keep playing.Provide early extrinsic motivation for playing more matches, to make it more likely players will find the intrinsic fun of the game.Allow newer players to develop their skills with similar-level players.Provide motivation for players to continue once they have reached an understanding of the game's core mechanics.So, to answer the question "When is ranked coming?", the answer is after we've done the following things:One-more-match screen in-game, so you don't have to leave the game to requeue for matchmaking.Level-up rewards and item exchanging. Aka get stuff for levelling up, and trade multiple common items for better items.Add skill filters in matchmaking. Ranked would suck really badly if multi-year-veterans played with 2-week-rookies.And then... we can tackle ranked play. We have said that we want to have a certain number of people at level X (replace X with whichever number seems about right experience-wise) before we release ranked matchmaking. Ranked will not have bots to fill in the gaps, so we need to be sure there will be enough players for everyone to get matches quickly. With our part-time team, definite dates are extremely hard to give, but we'll probably be starting the work in 4-6 weeks. We will be able to reuse a lot of the existing logic from our previous ranked system, but since that was active, matchmaking has completely changed, so it's not just a case of flipping a switch. If it were, we would probably have done so already.We've also got a bug-fix update coming soon. We're testing this internally at the moment. Expect the update to go public around the middle of next week. Some of the more interesting changes are:Shader optimizations. This should help those on lower-end hardware.Make bots sub instantly, instead of waiting a minute. This is a much bigger change than it sounds. We had to completely rewrite how bots substitutions are done (~3500 lines of code changes).Enabling VAC on matchmaking servers. There were a few reports of cheaters. This should help.Make the restart after goals quicker (about 5 seconds faster), which should make games flow better.Adjust the ping limit system so people are not preventing from joining matchmaking. Aka the "we're struggling to find a server for you" problem.Fix bug where player is not shown on podium.Enable access to backer gun (thank-you backers!).-James. Update 30. July 2016: Launcher version 0.19.13 primarily addresses cases in which the game doesn't start for some people.- Fixed launcher not running for some people: disable use of d3d11 for launcher on known unstable system- Incase gameplay part (udk.exe) is not working now shows detailed error msg as to why it won't start- Fixed that players with less than 10 ranked matches cannot join a ranked server- Fixed server list scrolling under the browser header- Old launcher log files automatically get deleted- Server browser is now automatically opened incase no suitable lobby is found. 3v3 Tournament: On Thursday 25.04.19 registrations for the one-day SUPRA mini tournament will start. November 2017: The Ranked queue now shows how many people are also queued that are compatible with you (same region, in your skill range). 4:. Update 15. June 2018: Most of the code for this was done by Skylar, but due to lack of time we couldn't properly test & deploy it until recently.The idea is that players get a personal goal like "do 10 successful passes" and gain XP as a reward. The goals were all picked so that they encourage team work more instead of trying to win everything alone. Additionally, this update brings back the "unified match report" tab, but now fixed for lobby reports.. 20. April Update: Major changes:- Practice servers no longer crashing on map change- Humans can sub for bots and vice versa- Bot skill level will be changed when humans sub and Bot ranks now show in ESC screen- Bots much better at passing and less predictable in attack- Added new map Desert- Performance optimisations in all maps and for effects- Beginners will now start playing higher ranking bots earlier instead of beating them easily after a few matches and getting bored- National jerseys now have flags on them and also added Spain, Poland, Turkey, Russia, Belgium- Ranked matches disabled temporarily- Opening animations now focus much longer on the players to allow bragging with itemsMinor Changes:- Fixed podium problems in Cave and Moon- Fixed some item appearances- Fixed Practice alone crashing when keeper knocked out player- Servers now reset when all humans have left, to not waste resources- Fixed problem where there would be 10 bots in a ranked match, resulting in a 10v10 match.. Update 7. October: - Added dash for field players with 3.5s cooldown- Fixes problems with invite window- Training courts now saves status (tasks completed, coins collected…) and you can continue in another session.- Training courts: Need to finish certain tasks to progress- Training courts bit more user friendly and guiding- Training court: 4 more hidden coins including “floor is lava” challenge- Optimized lighting rendering in maps- Optimized performance in Hall and Hall_night (regarding reflecting floor and confetti dropping FPS)- Boop-sound (shield bounce) less loud- Now allowing private servers that require a password. To set a password add MatchPassword=yourpassword in udkdeathball.ini. Do NOT set the password in udkgame.ini.- Added new dash sound and effect- No-HUD bug solved for real this time. Please report if it happens again.- In order to fix the bug that makes servers die after matches we added debug code that will help us figure out the problem. We also reverted the change from a previous update where the intro sequence was removed from practice servers, because we suspect it might be related.
